MGM Attains ISO 50001 Certification for All its Properties

Mar 18, 2020

MGM proudly announced that its second property, MGM COTAI has recently attained the ISO 50001:2018 certification for effective energy management systems (EnMS), making all of the Company’s properties ISO 50001 certified. This exemplifies MGM’s endeavors in enhancing property energy efficiency, reducing costs and achieving continual improvement through energy management systems, following MGM MACAU receiving the first ISO 50001 certification in 2016, when MGM was Macau’s first integrated resort operator to receive the certification.

ISO 50001 is the international standard for Energy Management Systems created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which is considered as the idealist energy management standard in the world. With the fundamental sustainability vision of “Create a Better Tomorrow Today”, MGM is always working towards becoming a more sustainable enterprise in various aspects of its daily operations. With the goal of reducing its annual total normalized energy consumption against the baseline by 13% by year 2025, MGM COTAI has a normalized energy saving of 4.7% in 2019 comparing to 2018, which truly demonstrates MGM’s determination in prioritizing sustainability and fulfilling its commitment to adopt international standards.

Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “MGM believes an environmentally-responsible business is always a better business, and we also recognize the importance of ensuring the long-term sustainable development in the Macau community. With all our properties now ISO 50001 certified, this is a testimony on our commitment towards a more sustainable travel and tourism industry in the region. While our Facility Management team strives to reducing energy consumption of our properties with intelligent solutions, this achievement is also the result of all of our team members who contribute by making small green changes one at a time, as simple as switching off unused lights and computers.”

MGM’s green endeavors are recognized regionally and internationally. Last year, MGM COTAI has obtained the ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System Certification through proactive environmental management adhering to the international standard. In 2018, MGM COTAI has been awarded the Three-Star certification under the China Green Building Design Label by the China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association, which was the first mega-size complex project in Macau to have achieved the Three-Star certification, the highest and most prestigious ranking in the Label.
