Developing local talent has always been the priority in MGM. In view of providing more targeted trainings for different types of professions, MGM collaborated with the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) to launch the “Professional Workforce Development Series” for its team members. Divided into three main areas, namely “Occupational Quality Training”, “Professional Certification” and “Career Development Program”, these series will offer professional trainings for an estimate of over 5,000 MGM team members. In addition, the brand new “Food and Beverage Occupational Quality Training” is also introduced along with an extensive line up of trainings, making MGM the first integrated resort hotel to organize this training with DSAL and Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM). Through encouraging its team members to proactively take part in the trainings, the Company hopes to enhance the overall quality of local talent, in line with Macau’s role as the tourism education and training hub for the Greater Bay Area.
The launch ceremony took place on July 9 at MGM COTAI, attended by a line-up of guests of honors including Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL; Zhang Jian Hua, Assistant Director-General of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Leong Man Ion, Deputy Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; Lee Chong Cheng, President of FAOM; Hubert Wang, President, and Chief Operating Officer of MGM China Holdings Limited; and Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM.
Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL, said, “We are thrilled to see that our local integrated resort operator recognizes the importance of talent development and provide an array of on-job training resources for their staffs, so that they can continue enhancing their skills and seize the opportunities for upward mobility. As Macau has rapidly grown into World Center of Tourism and Leisure, employed residents shall continue seeking self-enhancement to increase their own competitiveness, which would be beneficial to build the strength of Macau’s tourism and leisure industry in the Greater Bay Area.”
Hubert Wang, President, and Chief Operating Officer of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “For years, we have been collaborating with DSAL to organize various trainings for our team members, which have posted great advancement to their skills, occupational quality and many other aspects. The official launch of this training series marks a significant milestone to our long-term partnership. We hope to continue supporting the professional development of our team members through more collaborations with DSAL, FAOM and other sectors in the community.”
Occupational Quality Training
Co-organized by DSAL, FAOM and MGM, the “Occupational Quality Training” program offers the “Gaming Industry Occupational Quality Training” and the brand new “Food and Beverage Industry Occupational Quality Training”. The former has been participated by over 1,600 team members to date, focuses on enhancing quality in the work ethics, conduct, and core capabilities of employees in the gaming sector; the latter aims to reinforce the food and beverage service quality to strengthen Macau’s position as the "Creative City of Gastronomy". Around 2,000 F&B team members will participate in the training.
Professional Certification
MGM currently offers two professional certification trainings, the “Facility Maintenance Training Professional Certification Program” and the “Culinary ‘One Test, Two Certifications’ Program and Skill Test”. With the objective of cultivating talents in the field of facility management, the former offers a set of industry related trainings, like professional project license examinations and practical courses; the latter, highlighting the “one test, two certifications” feature, allows trainees to gain both an occupational training certificate from DSAL and a National Vocational Qualification Certificate or a Professional Skills Certificate upon completing the series of culinary examination courses and skill tests.
Career Development Program
Ranging from 9 to 15 months, the PRIDE Career Development Program provides a series of training tracks to prepare high potential team members from various levels to take on their more important roles in MGM. This year, the Program invites DSAL to lecture on Macau Labor Relations Law, which will to provide PRIDERs a more in-depth knowledge of the local labor market.
