MGM Children’s Health Day Safeguards Physical Wellness of Macau’s Next Generation

Worker’s Medical Clinic Conducting Check-ups for 200 Children

Aug 20, 2020

In support of Macau SAR government’s policy of “A sound healthcare system, putting prevention first”, MGM recently held “MGM Children’s Health Day” with the assistance of professionals from Worker’s Medical Clinic of Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) to conduct free medical check-ups for 200 children. On the same occasion, MGM Volunteer Team played games conveying health message with the children, who also received a health gift pack as a reminder of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Held at The Grand Ballroom of MGM MACAU, “MGM Children’s Health Day” was attended by FAOM President Ho Sut Heng, Consultant Leong Iok Wa and MGM representatives, including Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources; Michelle Chiu, Vice President of Human Resources; and Irene Wong, Vice President of Public and Community Relations. Participating children, aged 6 to 12, came from Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, The Salvation Army (Macau) Education Center, Fountain of Love and Joy Integrated Family Service Center – Caritas Macau, Good Shepherd Center & Good Shepherd Sisters’ Women Mutual Center as well as children of MGM team members.

Medical personnel from Worker’s Medical Clinic checked the eyes, oral cavity and spine of the children with great patience, giving parents a brief idea of their physical condition. Apart from disease prevention, the medical checks would enable the parents to attend to their children’s health problems as soon as possible. MGM volunteers also did exercise with the children and imparted health knowledge to them through playing games. The children also enjoyed the fun of balloon twisting and watched the “Sea Odyssey” show at Grande Praça. The event concluded by distributing health gift packs to the children. Each contained children’s health food, disinfectant spray, kids’ toothpaste, plus iron, zinc and calcium supplements.

Leong Iok Wa, Consultant of FAOM, said, “The event has raised the awareness of the parents on the need of monitoring their children’s health. They also understand that an overlooked risk may impair their children’s physical development. This thoughtful event hosted by MGM has created a relaxing atmosphere for children to learn how to build a healthy diet and lifestyle, which will help to reduce the burden on Macau’s medical system in the long run. We are looking forward to cooperating with MGM again on launching more initiatives to protect the health of children as well as people of different ages. We hope that our joint effort will serve as a guardian of health in the community.”

A member of Good Shepherd Center, Ms. Fong took her kid to join the event and said, “Children tend to have a sweet tooth. Some of them also spend a lot of time on digital devices which may lead to poor posture. These would put the health of their oral cavity, eyes and spine at risk. It’s so fortunate that this activity helps us identify possible ailments of our children and reminds us on monitoring their behavior lifestyle.”
