MGM Cleans and Decorates 200 Senior Citizens’ Households

Feb 3, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Over 140 Team Members Show Compassion to Welcome Year of the Monkey

[February 3, 2016, Macau] For the fifth year, MGM joined hands with “Centro de Dia Brilho da Vida”, a service center for seniors under Caritas Macau, to organize the “Spring Clean for Love” event for local senior citizens living alone.

In Chinese traditions, a cleaned house symbolizes the arrival of good luck and fortune at Chinese New Year. On February 3, MGM’s senior executives led a team of 140 volunteers, including more than 50 management team members, to clean and decorate 200 households of 65-90 year-olds. As one of the operators providing the largest scale of house cleaning activity, MGM believes the seniors can experience love and care from the community, and our philanthropic efforts can bring together our colleagues and inspire them to extend the fulfilling happiness to their families at home.

Subsequently, the Chinese “Fai Chun” (red banners) specially designed by MGM were placed on doorways and windows as festive decorations to welcome Chinese New Year. In addition, MGM presented a New Year “goodie bag” gift to wish every household a healthy and prosperous year ahead.

Year by year, the number of volunteers participated in the house cleaning has increased from 60 to 140, and the number of beneficiaries has grown from 80 to 200.

Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, participated in the house cleaning and said, “Through the activity, team members show their compassion and support to the community and helps to forge a stronger bond within the team. MGM has always encouraged our team to participate in numerous volunteering activities as a way to give back to the community. In the coming Year of the Monkey, MGM will continue to be an advocate for the community with various charitable events and to create a better tomorrow today.”

Mr. Philip Yuen, Director of Administration from Caritas Macau, visited the senior citizens and the volunteer team. “We would like to thank MGM for their continuous support to Caritas Macau and especially their participation in the annual Spring Clean for the senior citizens at the Social Housing Unit. This year, MGM reaches a high record of 200 households and is the first operator to have achieved such a large scale of cleaning activity. We hope that the kindness from MGM can be extended to the community in welcoming a prosperous year ahead.” he said.

MGM has been working with Centro de Dia Brilho da Vida since 2010 on different activities for senior citizens locally. A dedicated team of volunteers was formed in May, 2011 to pay monthly visits to the Center, and has established a profound friendship ever since. They have contributed over 3,000 hours of volunteer work since, and has reached 3,500 social service recipients.
