MGM Sponsors “Macau Outstanding Teenagers” for the Fourth Time
Feb 20, 2016
Encourages Young Generations to Strive for Personal Achievement and Positive Outlook on Life
[February 20, 2016] For the fourth time, MGM sponsors “Macau Outstanding Teenagers,” a campaign organized biennially by the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau (YMCA) since 2010, to nurture local youth and help them develop positive outlook on life. Applications and nominations are accepted beginning today, and the selection process will take place between February and September, 2016.
The Launch Ceremony was held at MGM MACAU today, attended by Guests of Honor Ms. Lin Danhong, Director of the Social Work Department of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R.; Mr. Ip Pui Fai, President of the YMCA of Macau; Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, and Ms. Cherry Chio I Teng, Former Macau Outstanding Teenagers Award winner. Other distinguished guests include representatives from supporting organizations, students and faculties from local schools. The Ceremony pertains to the theme of activating gearwheels, which is a metaphor to all members of the society — despite professions, skills, areas of interests functioning the society co-dependently, that local youth rely on the encouragement from the society to grow and shine. Following a briefing session on the campaign, Ms. Cherry Ho, Ambassador of YMCA 2016, shared her story and experience to encourage young Macanese to go after their dreams.
In her speech, Ms. Kuan Sok Leng, General Secretary of YMCA, said this award demonstrates YMCA’s social responsibility by accrediting passionate individuals whose impact has helped creating a wholesome environment for the younger generation to mature.
Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “MGM, as a local integrated resort operator with a vested interest in the Macau community, is committed to developing young talent for the future. Through the years, the Macau Outstanding Teenager winners have set exemplary models for our youth to follow, and we are delighted to continue to play a role in the process in providing such aspirations."
The judging panel will consist 30 social and community personalities from various fields and expertise. A total of 20 individuals will be selected from three key aspects: “Personal Achievements”, “Personal Endeavors” and “Involvement in the Community”.
New elements are added to this year’s campaign. Local artist Hyper Lo, named the “Star of Outstanding Teenagers,” will write a theme song for the campaign, while a team of local talent will produce a short film. Once 50 finalists are selected, they will participate in different experimental activities such as social etiquettes, public speaking and community services, so as to enrich their experiences and to be more prepared for the final competition.
The fourth “Macau Outstanding Teenagers” nominations begins today and runs until 9pm on March 31. Organizations or adults over 21 can nominate teenagers aged 12 to 18 in each of the three categories as mentioned above. Application forms can be downloaded from the official websites (www.ymca.org.mo, or www.macauoutstanding-T.org), and are available at all YMCA affiliated centers. For enquiries, please contact Ms. Lou on +853 2830 2600 between 9am-6pm, Mondays and Saturdays or Ms. Yuen on +853 2822 6146 from 1pm-9pm, Mondays-Sundays.
