MGM Joins Green Week for Seventh Consecutive Year

Golden Lion Team Members Work to Build Macau’s Environmentally Sustainable Future

Mar 17, 2016

[March 17, 2016, Macau] For the seventh year in a row, MGM has supported the “Macau Green Week” campaign, organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR government (IACM). Over 40 volunteers of the Golden Lion Team, led by MGM’s management team, joined the “Tree Maintenance and Protection” program at Hác-Sá Reservoir Country Park on March 16, in an effort to encourage the public to take action in environmental conservation and preservation, and to help nurture a fresher Macau under our sustainability vision, Create a Better Tomorrow Today.

MGM has supported and participated in the “Tree Maintenance and Protection” program as part of the “Macau Green Week” campaign, organized by IACM, for the seventh consecutive year. Management team members led over 40 volunteers of Golden Lion Team to help prune, water, eliminate weeds, till and fertilize over 150 trees. Each participant was given a potted plant as souvenir to recognize their effort as well as to motivate their friends and family to adopt environmentally-responsible behavior at work and at home. In addition, IACM engaged tree specialists to assist and demonstrate knowledge in tree care.

Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said “Today’s volunteers were enthusiastic and have a built stronger team spirit as everyone stands united to complete the initiative. This tree care program is truly a wonderful, rewarding opportunity for our volunteers to admire Mother Nature and do something positive for the local environment as well as for the community. Our team members could also share the message of environmental sustainability with the community and thus build a greener Macau together.”

One of the volunteers, Luisa Kuan from Food and Beverage department, said, “I’m very glad to be part of this meaningful cause, as we went to restore and maintain the trees on Macau’s mountains, we got to enjoy the fresh air and scenic hikes—a different sort of beauty that inhabits this island city. Surprisingly, I’ve learnt a lot about the techniques of growing plants, from IACM’s tree specialist today.”

MGM is dedicated to integrating environmental considerations into all aspects of our operations, believing that an environmentally responsible business is a better business that benefits not only MGM but also the local community through our employees who are supported to adopt environmentally responsible behavior. The involvement of the Golden Lion Team in programs such as this has allowed our volunteer members to learn more about environmental protection and help build a harmonious and green Macau, in line with MGM’s sustainability vision, Create a Better Tomorrow Today.
