MGM Hosts Annual MGM Academy Graduation Day 2017

Celebrating the Development of Local Talent to Create a Sustainable Future for Macau

[March 29, 2017, Macau] MGM hosted the annual MGM Academy Graduation 2017 to celebrate and recognize the development of our 6,000 team members from various training programs. More than 300 Golden Lion team members, representing the various cohort of training programs, attended the Graduation today in the presence of special guests including government officials, academics and MGM’s senior executives.

Annually, MGM provides more than 57,400 training places for our team members with an average of over 45 training hours per team member. The Graduation commencement was held at 3:30pm at MGM MACAU’s Grand Ballroom, witnessing the graduation of team members from core developmental programs including MGM Management Associate Program (MAP) & PRIDE Career Development programs, MGM Academy, and MGM Continuing Education. In addition, two awards were presented at the event: the “MGM Outstanding Learner Award” was presented to Gavin Lei Chi, Table Games Pit Manager, while the “MGM Outstanding Learning Department Award” was presented to the Facilities Management Operations & Engineering department.

Guests of Honor in attendance were Mr. Zuo Xiang Hua, Director of Economic Affairs Department of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Anthony Leong, Deputy Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of Macao SAR; Ms. Cheung Wai, Head of Vocational Training Department of Labour Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR; Mr. Kong Ngai, Chief of Division of Continuing Education of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR; Ms. Vong Iut Peng, Functional Head (Assistance to Higher Education Students) of Tertiary Education Services Office of Macao SAR; Mr. Chan Kam Meng, President of Macau Federation of Trade Unions; Dr. Fanny Vong, President of Institute for Tourism Studies; Dr. Hester Cheang, Director of Gaming Teaching and Research Centre of Macao Polytechnic Institute; Prof. Leung Shing On, Director of Centre of Continuing Education of University of Macau; Mr. Leong Iao Cheng, Director of Louis Gonzaga Gomes Luso-Chinese Secondary School and  Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, who congratulated the graduates and presented each of them with certificates at the ceremony.

MGM has consistently put tremendous efforts and emphasis in developing local talents through its wide range of training programs:

MGM Academy

MGM Academy offers to all team members with the access and resources to further develop themselves in different fields, in which more than 200 academy courses are available. Taking into consideration the different learning needs of team members who may work in different shift and location, MGM eAcademy, an online learning platform, adopts the technological approach to ensure that learning resources are made available to them anytime and anywhere.

Career Development Programs

MGM offers clear career paths for our team members’ professional development. Two pioneering programs, including MAP and PRIDE Program, are designed to offer high-potential local talents intensive career development training at MGM MACAU, paired with cross-training experience at MGM Resorts International’s properties in Las Vegas. The MAP Program focuses on developing new graduates and internal staff, while the PRIDE Program aims to pave the way for career advancement of existing team members.

Continuing Education

MGM continuously partners with local government, universities and community associations to bring continuing education and certification opportunities to our team members.  Since 2015, more than 780 team members have been sent to different external institutions for their continuing education and professional upgrading, enabling them to sharpen their skills, and prepare them for a better future. More than MOP5.1 million of scholarship and sponsorship were given out to support students and academic events to date since opening in 2007. Furthermore, all team members can enjoy the in-house library service with a collection of over 1,500 books on a broad range of subjects, creating more growth and learning opportunities.
