MGM Donates MOP300,000 to Holy House of Mercy Welfare Shop

Supporting its Local Charitable Causes to Create a Harmonious Society

Apr 3, 2017

[April 3, 2017, Macau] For the fifth year in a row, MGM donated MOP300,000 to the Macau Holy House of Mercy Welfare Shop project, funding the distribution of food hampers to more than 350 local low-income households. MGM’s senior executives led a team of over 40 volunteers to help distribute food hampers and MGM’s custom-made eco-friendly handcarts to the families. More than 1,600 low-income families have received MGM’s food hampers and handcarts under the Welfare Shop project since its launch in 2013.

On April 1, MGM’s senior executives and a team of more than 40 volunteers visited the Holy House of Mercy Welfare Shop, where they were warmly received by Mr. António José de Freitas, President of the Board of Trustees; Mr. Bruno Nunes, Member of the Board of Trustees and Mr. José Ricardo das Neves, President of the Supervisory Committee of Macau Holy House of Mercy. Meanwhile, Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, presented a donation check of MOP300,000 to Mr. António José de Freitas, on behalf of Holy House of Mercy in support of its local charitable causes and daily operation.

During the distribution of food hampers, the volunteers divided into six groups, and each of them took up specific parts in helping to pack basic food and daily necessities, including rice, noodles, canned food, and cooking oil into MGM’s tailor-made handcarts and distributed to the families. These families were referred by Macao Federation of Trade Unions, General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau, Associação dos Familiares Encarregados dos Deficientes Mentais de Macau and Macau Holy House of Mercy.

Mr. António José de Freitas, said of the activity, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to MGM for its continuous support to the Welfare Shop. We appreciate and admire the togetherness among MGM’s management team and the Volunteer Team members, putting their energy in making this a truly meaningful initiative which benefits those in need.”

“We make it our mission to not only extend service to our guests, but also to serve those in need in our local community,” Mr. Grant Bowie said. “Our volunteers and their enthusiasm in giving back is what makes today’s event a success. While we grow our footprint in Macau, we must not forget to make good use of our resources to help the people around us, to show compassion and foster a harmonious environment which all contribute to creating a better tomorrow for Macau, today.”

As part of our dedication and commitment to the local community, MGM has been supporting the Welfare Shop project since its launch in 2013. We will remain a consistent supporter of initiatives that have a positive impact in the well-being of the local community, in line with our vision to Create a Better Tomorrow Today.
