MGM Launches ‘Local Talent Continuing Education Series’ for Team Members
Remains Consistent in Enhancing Skills Diversification for Staff’s Career Advancement

[September 29, 2016, Macau] The MGM Local Talent Continuing Education Series Kick Off Ceremony took place at MGM MACAU’s Grand Ballroom today. At the ceremony, MGM presented its learning and development strategy and long-term commitment to nurturing local talent. The presentation included a robust roadmap on diversifying skillsets through on-the-job training that enables all MGM team members to thrive in their careers.
Guests of Honor in attendance at the ceremony were Mr. Chan Un Tong, Deputy Director of Labour Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR (DSAL); Ms. Fong Ieok Mui, Acting Head of the Department of Administration of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR (DSEJ); Ms. Ho Sut Heng, President of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM); Dr. Hester Cheang, Director of Gaming Teaching and Research Centre (GTRC) of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI); Mr. Leong Iao Cheng, Director of Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Ltd. and Ms. Wendy Yu, Senior Vice President of Human Resources of MGM MACAU.
At the ceremony, MGM unveiled three talent development programs available to its team members, designed to provide staff with the skills they need for career advancement. Partnering with DSAL and MPI, FAOM, and Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, the MGM Local Talent Continuing Education Series will provide training programs including “Diploma in Gaming Management”, “Gaming Industry Occupational Quality Training”, and “MGM High School Diploma Program” with courses beginning in September 2016.
Mr. Grant Bowie said of the Education Series, “MGM is committed to promoting life-long learning in the workplace and to the diversification of talent. We have further strengthened our effort in providing the most valuable, high-quality training programs for local employees of all ages. Over the years, MGM has worked closely with the government, education and community institutions, in order to consistently offer a spectrum of job-related skill training to raise the competitiveness of the Macau labor force, so that we are ready to excel with every new opportunity that arises.”
“Diploma in Gaming Management” Enhances the Quality of Casino Management Staff
MGM has collaborated with the GTRC at MPI to develop the new “Diploma in Gaming Management,” the first-ever dedicated gaming management training program for an integrated resort enterprise. The program is specially designed to provide gaming staff with high-level management courses, aimed to broaden their knowledge on gaming management and to build a solid foundation for further studies, and to nurture high quality managerial talent in the industry. These skills are essential to prepare team members for upward career mobility.
“Gaming Industry Occupational Quality Training” Reinforces Industry Knowledge
Jointly organized by DSAL and FAOM, the one-day “Gaming Industry Occupational Quality Training” targets dealers and other gaming related team members at MGM. The objective of the course is to develop the core occupational capability of employees in gaming sector, by enhancing quality in their work ethics, conduct, and core capabilities.
“MGM High School Diploma Program” Offers Staff the Chance to Complete their High School Studies
The “MGM High School Diploma Program” is co-organized with local Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes under DSEJ, dedicated to MGM staff. The highlight of the program is that classes take place at the company, paired with flexible class schedules which better accommodate team members’ individual working need. This encourages participants to complete all necessary courses to earn their qualifications, which is essential to career advancement. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be presented with junior high and high school diploma certificates, recognized by DSEJ.
